resist!
special announcement for [info]gendernerdy. Michelle Tea is to be in town shortly! Details on the website for the Sex Worker Arts Festival. At least one good thing I can count on looking forward to after the election...

somewhat puzzled
I admit to being somewhat puzzled by your fascination with sex worker lit. Is this part of the post-feminist/neo-feminist "empowerment by taking ownership of our sex drives" thing?

Having been raised by a regular old no-prefix-feminist, I still have a hard time seeing the sex trade as anything other than demeaning to women. Can you explain to me how it isn't?

Re: somewhat puzzled
It's really less a fascination with sex worker lit than it is a fascination with Michelle Tea. You should read one of her books sometime. If you're particularly interested in the sex worker side of it, pick up Rent Girl, otherwise I'd recommend starting with The Passionate Mistakes and Intricate Corruption of One Girl in America.
