So, have you been watching those debates? I so wanted to blog about them last night, to fill out all the internet polls, but my schedule is insane these days. i had all of five minutes after the debates were over, which was enough time to answer the abc poll and search fruitlessly the cnn site for their poll (which I never found) before I had to head out the door...
But I just want to say, that as a result of last night's debate, Kerry is so my new boyfriend. Now, I know I've been campaigning for him, both directly and indirectly, but up until last night, Kerry was not my boyfriend. Rather, he was that boy at the party you make out with because no one more attractive is there but you have to make out with someone in order to piss off your psycho ex-boyfriend who is glowering on the other side of the room.
But last night, Kerry was upgraded from meaningless PDA to going steady. And it was totally unexpected. A woman got up in the audience, asked a question about abortion, and I cringed, waiting for a punt. I waited for him to explain that there are many safeguards in place to make sure that tax dollars are not used to fund abortions, and flawed policies like Bush's gag rule and de-funding of the UNPF are political grandstanding that hurt women and families the world over. But he actually stepped up to the plate, saying that reproductive choice is a right, and that means that it's a right for poor people too.
I think I had an orgasm.
Then this morning at the door of an undecided voter, I had to bite my lip to keep from arguing with a woman who thought the "partial birth" abortion ban was a good thing. And I suppose it's good that I did, as I surely would have offended her, and she ended up pretty much talking herself into supporting Kerry without much help from my end.
Oh, and you were wondering where all the undecided voters are? Apparently they are all on the south-east side of Tucson. Nearly a third of the people I talked to this morning seemed to have no idea who they are going to vote for.
As for me, I rececived my ballot in the mail yesterday. I'm going to work on it this weekend, but as it is about 16,000 pages long, it may take a few days.
