random brain worm of the day

So I woke up this morning after having a lovely Oceans 11 type dream featuring the lovely Brad Pitt. And as I was sitting in my chair, waiting for breakfast to settle in the hopes of keeping it down, I scanned our movie collection to see if we had any appropriate Brad Pitt movies to keep my brain in its happy place while my digestive system righted itself.

Anyway, I came to the interesting conclusion that while I certainly have favorite actors, male and female, (Brad Pitt would not ordinarily be one of them, pregnancy dreams not-withstanding), those favorites are not really reflected in the movie purchases we have chosen. In fact, if you lumped all of the Lord of the Rings movies together as one movie (and really, you have too, otherwise anyone associated with those pictures would automatically win), then I was hard pressed to identify *any* actor of whose work we owned more than two movies.

Finally, with Andrew's help, we came up with two people who each had three movies on our shelves:
Emma Thompson (Much Ado About Nothing, Sense and Sensibility, Stranger than Fiction)
Hugo Weaving (The Matrix, The Lord of the Rings, The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert)

Emma Thompson certainly deserves to be one of our most purchased actors, and the fact that Hugo Weaving was the other gave me a little giggle.

Unless of course, you count voices on animated movies, in which case Alison Janney would win.

Anyway, so it made me wonder. In your movie collections, are your favorite actors more clearly reflected? Could someone come over to your house, take one glance at your movies and say, "Well, someone has a thing for Chow Yun-Fat?" Or does it surprise you to see who has the most representation as well?

Wait! Rupert Everett! (An Ideal Husband, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Stardust).

Innnnteresting.

I think I own... 4? movies, so I don't think you can really make much of a statement (and one was given to me, and is kind of random & obscure).

You can determine that I like Firefly, since I own the boxed set & the movie. Then there is the Princess Bride, Patch Adams, and Boys Don't Cry (which was given to me by a friend who was moving and getting rid of stuff)

If you count Firefly as a movie, then Nathan Fillion would also be in the running. (Firefly, Serenity, Waitress)

I think for us it would be directors, not actors that would make it obvious who we like.

Though hrm... I do have a lot of Hugo Weaving too...

Johnny Depp is certainly represented, but that's only because I have ever Tim Burton movie...

We used to have an over-representation of Terry Gilliam films (mine) and Mel Brooks (my husband's), but those have sort of blended in over time.

Any other favorite directors besides Burton?

A lot of Chinese directors, strangely: Yimou Zhang (House of Flying Daggers, Hero) Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), some Japanese directors, too (mostly Anime).

We have a bit of Speilberg, too but that's simply because he's made a lot of good movies.
